Field Service Technician

Department: Field Services

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 – 5, with some travel and on-call rotations

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the installation and preventative maintenance of telecommunications networks and equipment that support carrier grade infrastructures.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a clean driver’s license and be insurable.
  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical for driving requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Work with guidance from more experienced technicians.
  • Provide assistance to network operations technicians and engineers.
  • Contact customers regarding installation and access.
  • Maintain work queue for provisioning new work orders for service delivery.
  • Provision hardware required for service which may include assembling chassis, copying files, and verifying correct inventory has been assigned.
  • Verify connectivity once equipment has been installed and help in troubleshooting any issues.
  • Ability and desire to share knowledge / experiences within a team environment.
  • Coordinate emergency and routine maintenance with network operations.
  • Assist in replacing malfunctioning or inoperative equipment, such as circuit cards or processing units, and perform repairs and preventative maintenance.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

No experience is required as SDN is willing to train the right individual. Previous work experience in a related technical field or secondary education is desired, but not mandatory.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, climb, or balance, and lift up to seventy-five pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Occasionally work on lifts or ladders at heights up to approximately 70’.

BUSINESS CONTINUITY/DISASTER RECOVERY (BC/DR)

You are expected to participate in SDN’s Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery program by being knowledgeable about SDN’s BCDR Program, actively participate in BCDR drills and exercises, and may be assigned various duties in response to business emergencies (and establishing/executing priorities, responses and recovery activities in the event of a disruption).
